Devlog Blog Post #1
Brainstorming:
This project was built off another project that was built in a previous week. The theme for that project was "one button". I wanted to make this game a bit more engaging by adding in a few more buttons and move on to polishing the game.
Development:
I added the ability to press different keys for each type of food on the conveyor belt. When a food item is in the "hot zone" you can eat it if you have the right utensil equipped. I knew I needed some UI to represent the number you have eaten to show the player their progression and I wanted to add an indication of how much bad food they have eaten. After some testing I knew that the real challenge was not wasting the cafe's food. I added a condition for number of foods that the player missed and UI to represent the amount they had wasted. I finally added in some difficulty scaling algorithms to make the game progressively more challenging.
Testing:
Testing this game was fairly straight forward. I tested all the mechanics and then showed it to some friends, so they could provide some feedback. The biggest take-away was the indication of which utensil was equipped by the player.
Polish:
I added an indication of which utensil was equipped by the player and which number key the player needed to press to activate that utensil. I thought this really helped make the game more intuitive to first time users. I then worked on cleaning up some animations and got a friend to make me a new background for the new NomNom Kitchen.
